Medical and Health

Flying Doctors ServiceMedical Insurance
We organize membership of the Flying Doctors Service, the largest and best-known Air Ambulance Service in the region, for all our guests for the duration of their safari. This covers emergency evacuation to Nairobi so that anyone requiring medical assistance can be transferred to hospital within a few hours. The Flying Doctors' Air Ambulances are fully equipped; they arrive with qualified medical personnel and are highly experienced at landing on airstrips in the bush.

Although mobile phone coverage is widespread in Kenya, we always carry a satellite phone as well so that in the unlikely event an emergency should occur in an area of poor mobile phone reception help can be reached.

Health
We recommend consulting your local GP or travel health clinic well in advance of your departure to review any health precautions that may be necessary, for example inoculation requirements, as these do vary from country to country and are updated periodically. Please note, if your itinerary includes Tanzania you must bring a Yellow Fever inoculation certificate.

Although malaria is a consideration here in East Africa, the best prevention is to avoid being bitten. Use a good insect repellent and wear long sleeved shirts, trousers and socks in the evenings. We also recommend that you consult your doctor or travel health clinic for the latest information on malaria prophylactics.
We always carry a basic medical kit, but please ensure that you bring an adequate supply of any specialist or prescription medications. It is also important that you inform us in advance of any health conditions that may affect the nature of your itinerary.
