Climate and Time

Climate
Temperatures tend to be warm during the day with no humidity (except on the coast), and the evenings cool but not cold. The warmest months are January to March, with July to August being the coolest. Seasons are defined as wet and dry, with the “long-rains” usually occurring from late March or early April through to the end of May and the “short-rains” from mid-November to December. During the dry season the grass is shorter, which makes wildlife viewing easier and mammals are more concentrated within reach of the permanent water sources on which they depend, making their movements more predictable. In contrast, during the wet seasons the mammals disperse, no longer dependent on permanent water sources as new seasonal water sources fill up. Although this can make wildlife viewing less predictable during these seasons and lush vegetation can make mammals more difficult to see, these can also be the most spectacular seasons to see the landscape, painted with a new flush of green grass and an abundance of wild flowers.
