Newsletter - Christmas 2010

The latest safari news.

This season has been great fun, we have met some wonderful people and seen some truly amazing sights. In July and August there was a wet spell in the central part of Kenya, so much so that all the rift valley lakes filled. We visited Lake Nakuru to find that the lake was above the normal water line and, due to the alkalinity change, the shore was littered with greater flamingoes which are seldom seen in these numbers.

Dave has just been to the Serengeti to see a new mobile, fast moving camping operation, which is now by far the best way to access this vast wilderness region and something we will be pursuing with future guests.

In October Jayne took herself to Zanzibar for two weeks to learn swahili. She lived with a local family following local customs. Not only were the swahili lessons of great benefit but learning about the culture was even more fascinating.

The latest personal news.

We have just been to Switzerland (the land of cheese and chocolate), to do some marketing. We went up into the Swiss Alps and to the Black Forest where Dave saw snow falling for the first time. Thereafter we went to see Jayne’s family in England where we had an early Christmas.

We have recently moved house into what used to be a chicken shed in the Karen area. Some say we are now ‘going kuku’ but we feel we are closer to the hub of Nairobi and to where the action is.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
